Season and senses poems

That was summer ...

  1. That was summer ...
    Have you ever heard summer?
The screaming students splashing into the pool
on the last day of term,
sizzling of the steak on the barbie,
crickets chirping in the long grass like an orchestra.
    That was summer.

Remember that time when you felt the sand between your toes,
Your wet hair dripping onto your scorching hot back,
The crabs crawling across your feet.
Can you still feel the setting sun like a heated hotly on a cold night?
    That was summer.

Can you still taste the salty sea breeze?
The gritty sandwiches filled with sand,
The juicy steak full of flavour.
Can you still remember the first lick you had of that chocolatey ice cream?
The cool rare tickling that thirst at the back of your throat.
    That was summer.
