Snow Time!

Snow n. frozen vapour falling to earth in light white flakes.  Your task is to recount the journey of a particular snowflake - remember to be descriptive and take your snowflake on a fabulous venture ... a task for the whole family!  Keep safe and warm team :-)

  1. I floated through the thick misty air and glided effortlessly with the wind. My delicate features remained stable as I peacefully made my journey down. The scenery was breath-taking and through the crispy air, I could see a bizarre snowman wearing a snug scarf and grasping a cup of hot chocolate with two delightful marshmallows tucked inside as if it were a bed. Wait, oops! Silly me it wasn’t a snowman, but an ordinary man going out for an evening stroll with fallen snow inside his fashionable fedora. I smiled to myself and looked up at the night sky. My fellow snowflakes were charging behind me, but beyond that the stars were shimmering. They seemed to be so elegant, so graceful and I was envious. They lived for billions of years while snowflakes only lived for a day; maybe two. Also they were so radiant and eye catching, one could not help but admire them. But then, I remembered that we snowflakes bring joy to children. We make them happy. So with that thought I was satisfied and I could see below me that my journey was coming to an end. I gently landed on the petal of a pleasant flower and closed my eyes, wondering whether I would come back as a raindrop or a hailstone.

Huh? I opened my eyes to find myself in a large white space with clustered ice stuck to the sides, a fridge! Also, a young boy with a guilty looking face was peering down at me. I understood what was going on almost immediately; snowflakes are clever little beings y’know! The boy did not desire for the snow to end and had preserved me in his freezer; it was understandable and I didn’t really mind. So here I am now writing this in my diary, life is pretty good in a fridge!

Check out this impressive example from Jamin :-)

  2. I’ve been all around the world falling and evaporating. But sometime I change and freeze up in the sky. I get a bit lighter and fall twice as slow, but I make the kids happy when they see me. They come outside and sometimes try to eat me! They play and make stuff with me and scream out ’’NO SCHOOL!’’ But once I’ve been outside in the cold for two or three days, I unfortunately start to melt and melt and melt until I am no longer here. The parents get excited and say ’‘back to school with you.’’ The kids get upset and complain. But they know I’ll try to be back next year.

  4. I floated through the snow encrusted air, as I day dreamed about the life of a star, gleaming in the dark lifeless sky, lighting up the blank chalkboard of the astronauts.
I shut my eyes as I felt my bristly edges brush up against those of my peers. I hear excited screams and Christmas carols of hope and love, being sung below me. I taste the fresh salty air of the sea on my soft taste buds. I could see small lively children, doing star-jumps on the ground. I see men and women laughing and gazing up at me, not realizing that they are knee deep in snow. I feel famous, I AM famous. I am in the spotlight of all these earthlings. Everything fades and I land on a soft snow covered pillow.

I burst open my eyes as I feel liquid pouring over me. It is sticky and red, and sticks to my tiny icicles. It tastes like fresh raspberries. Almost at once, I figure out whats happening. I’m shaved ice! The man who is serving me pours me into a slim china bowl, and calls out “SHAVED ICE, ONLY $3.50” Suddenly, I can see and hear more and more people arriving, and just as I am about to warn my friends, the man scoops me up and hands me to a little girl. I hear the clang of the precious coins fall into the mans rough hands. I feel every stone, bump, and slide, as the little girl carefully carries me back to her house. I feel the cool senses of home as she places me in her ‘refrigerator.’ Finally, I am where I belong, in the ice cold.
